Montreuil Bellay Antiques Market on the First Sunday in March
Simon and I enjoyed our rummage around the Montreuil Bellay antiques market this morning.
Montreuil Bellay hosts the market on the first Sunday of every month, come rain or shine.
Today was sunny and it was so lovely to be out in the fresh country air. It was great to see a few other bargain hunters strolling around too. In the summer months Montreuil Bellay antiques market is a lot busier with many more market stalls to tempt the extra visitors.
During the summer season Montreuil Bellay is the place to be on the first Sunday of every month. The pretty town with its fairytale chateau is a magnet for tourists and locals too. It takes on a wonderful vibe with people spilling from the bistros onto the terraces to soak up the warmth and the atmosphere.
Simon spotted today’s star purchase, an antique, early 20c wheelbarrow. We took it off the dealer’s hands for just 15 euro. He’d asked for 20 and Simon bargained hard!! It will look adorable in our garden overflowing with pots of herbs or flowers.
No trip to Montreuil Bellay antiques market is complete without a visit to le Boulangerie. No cakes for us today sadly, but we picked up our usual baguette for our simple wine and cheese lunch on our return to Manoir de Gourin. We drank a local Saumur Blanc with some French compte. Delicious!
Montreuil bellay is no more than a 15 minute drive from Manoir de Gourin. There are two Boulangeries offering fabulous fresh bread and eyewatering cakes. You have a choice of eateries:
