Simon and I arrived back at Manoir de Gourin 2 weeks ago and preparations for our 2018 season are well underway. Simon has been concentrating on the garden and pool while I’ve been preparing our cottages / gites for our first guests arrival on 02 June.
We are looking forward to welcoming our first guests, a couple who stayed with us two years ago. They have booked all five of our cottages for a family holiday and will have the place to themselves. What great fun!
The weather was great last week, not so good today when we took off for the monthly antiques market in Montsoreau. The lack of brilliant sunshine did not deter the visitors to the market. It was as busy as ever. I’m not surprised, it’s a beautiful place, on the banks of the Loire with bistros, cafes, a boulangerie……
As usual, we couldn’t resist the lures of the market and ended up buying an old childrens’
scooter for our infant grandchildren (although it looks good in the hall) and a metal grape container for Simon. It’s missing its straps which means Simon can’t use it on his back to throw grapes into, which is its purpose, but it will look lovely on a wall festooned with flowers or even trailing cherry tomatoes. Simon get planting please!
We had a quick stroll through Fontevraud on the way back to Manoir de Gourin. There are roses everywhere, the place looked very pretty. We always recommend a visit to the Abbey at
Fontevraud to our guests, just a 30 minute drive from us. Visit Candes St Martin too, just a stones throw away.
A reminder that the antiques market in Montsoreau is on the second sunday of every month.
There is a weekly market on every Sunday so worth a trip to this delightful town even without the antiques market.
